There comes a peculiar moment in the life of the extremely wealthy when one realises that mountains are, quite frankly, inconvenient. They are far away, frequently too hot or too cold, and rarely equipped with decent coffee or reliable Wi-Fi. And so as civilisation tends to do, we solved the problem by bringing the mountain indoors.

This project is a bouldering gym designed for a friend whose enthusiasm for climbing is matched only by his reluctance to commute to an actual cliff. It is, in essence, a room dedicated entirely to the noble pursuit of going up and down small bits of fake rock.

The space is unapologetically excessive. Expensive board system everywhere. Angles within angles. Overhangs that would make a limestone cave blush. Every conceivable surface on which one might cling, dangle, and momentarily question their life choices has been thoughtfully installed. One might say it is less a gym and more a topographical condition.

For centuries humans have climbed mountains seeking transcendence, solitude, or at the very least a good view. Here we attempt something slightly different: the recreation of that same primal urge within a highly controlled, climate-regulated environment, ideally before lunch.

This is logical endpoint of modern life. When nature becomes too distant, too muddy, or too time-consuming, we simply reconstruct the sensation of it. A curated wilderness. A domesticated cliff face. The romance of geology with none of the logistical inconvenience.
